FIRST MATE / 2nd CAPTAIN

The responsibilities of the First Mate / 2"^d Captain are the most diverse of all jobs onboard. This is why it is very important that there be great communication between the Captain and the Mate each and every day. The Captain and Mate should discuss how the particular tasks of the day be carried out, and whom would accomplish such tasks.

The main responsibility of the First Mate / 2"^d Captain is to assist the Captain with the overall management and maintenance of the vessel. This includes the training of crew, troubleshooting mechanical difficulties and control of the vessel during the night while under way. The first mate will also be familiar with the daily operations of the vessel, so that in the event the Captain should become ill or injured, he / she may take over these responsibilities.

 Key Duties

• Assit Captain with assigned duties for the day
• Check ship systems
• Supervise the dive deck and divemasters
• Secure vessel at night and before leaving any dive site. 
• Assign general maintenance to be carried out.
